With the Regulation Amending the Regulation on the Implementation of the Turkish Citizenship Law (“Regulation”), published in the Official Gazette No. 31834 on 13.05.2022, the conditions regarding the acquisition of Turkish citizenship have been updated as follows.

According to subparagraph (b) of the second paragraph of Article 20 of the Regulation; At least 250.000 USD or equivalent foreign currency is purchased, provided that an annotation is placed in the land registry that it shall not be sold for three years or condominium or floor servitude has been established, at least 250.000 USD or equivalent foreign currency deposited in advance, and its transfer and cancellation to the land registry for three years Foreigners, who are determined by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, where the sale of the immovable is promised with the contract drawn up in the notary public, provided that the commitment not to be made is annotated, shall exceptionally be able to acquire Turkish citizenship. With the new Regulation, this amount has been updated as 400.000,00 USD.

In addition, by adding subparagraph (f) to the second paragraph of Article 20 of the Regulation, the contribution of at least 500.000.00 USD or equivalent in foreign currency is kept in the funds determined by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency and on the condition that it remains in the system for three years. It is regulated that foreigners determined by this Institution to have invested in the pension system can acquire Turkish citizenship exceptionally.

Finally, the 10th paragraph of the relevant article has been amended to apply to the subparagraph (f) added to the Regulation; It has been stated that the Turkish Lira amounts deposited in the above-mentioned private pension system shall be kept in the funds determined by the Institution in the private pension system for three years.

The first article of this amendment shall enter into force one month after its publication, and the other articles shall come into force on the date of its publication.
